Rennick Steele's Battle of Kittanning launched our 2007 Season. Originally written as part of the French and Indian War, 250 Commemorative Event, held in Kittanning in September 2006.
2006 . . . Our 17th season curtain opened with the premier of Rennick Steele's historical drama, Follow the Northern Star. An ambitious production, staged not only indoors, but on our hillside adjacent to the theatre, as the 78th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Company F of Freeport, Pennsylvania opened the curtain with a re-enacted the historic Battle of the Wheat Field. Patrons attended our performances dressed in period costume which added additional authenticity to the show. Set before, during, and after the Civil War, Follow the Northern Star brought history of the Underground Railroad in the Allegheny and Kiski Valleys to life, also telling the story of the 11th Pennsylvania Reserve Regiment, Company G, who participated in some of the most bitter battles of the Civil War.
Newcomers to our stage earnestly portrayed the plight of slaves trying to make their way north toward freedom. Laure-Johnson Wade, as The Whippoorwill, and James Garland, as Billy Shafer, along with many other talented supporting actors delivered moving performances of local historical folk who lived through those trying times; and, who are buried in Brookland Cemetery, which overlooks our theatre.
We wrapped our season with a perennial favorite, Arsenic and Old Lace, tickling our patrons funny bone with this madcap comedy!

"Seizing of the Point" 2004
2004 . . .Seizing of the Point, a one-act play written by Freeport Theatre Festival's Rennick Steele to celebrate the kick-off of the 250-year celebration at the Historical Pointe in Downtown Pittsburgh. Known for its juncture of three rivers, the Allegheny, the Monongahela and the Ohio, this plot of land bears historical significance as it saw much action during the French and Indian War. Home to Ft. Duquesne, the French held control of this valley until 1758. What unfolded in the following years was critical in marking Pittsburgh's history.
